What this statement covers

Technologies used

How it was checked

• This is a self-assessment, carried out by the person who built the site on the pages actually published, not on a test version.
• On every build an automated check measures the contrast of every text-and-background combination the site really uses, reading them from the project’s own colours: if one became unreadable, the build would fail.
• The heading hierarchy, the page landmarks, the declared language, the alternative text of images, the accessible names of links and buttons, the size and spacing of targets and the behaviour of zoom were all inspected by hand.
• Keyboard-only navigation was tried on the pages and on the panels, at desktop width and at a phone size of 375 by 812 points.
• No third-party conformance evaluation has been carried out, and the site has not been tried with screen readers on real devices. That is why this page does not claim conformance with the WCAG guidelines: claiming it would require a check we have not done.

What has been done

• Semantic HTML structure, with a single main heading per page and a heading hierarchy without gaps.
• Colour contrast checked automatically on every build: every text and background combination used in the site meets the 4.5:1 ratio required at level AA.
• Everything can be operated with the keyboard alone, including the photo galleries and the panels.
• The focus point is always visible: a coloured ring that changes hue with the surface it lands on — terracotta on light grounds, broom yellow on dark ones — so that it stays distinguishable anywhere.
• A “Skip to content” link at the start of every page lets you jump past the header.
• Every page declares its own language, and the links to the other four carry the hreflang attribute: screen reader users hear the text pronounced with the right phonetics instead of the Italian ones.
• The enlargement windows and the panels use the native dialog element: focus stays inside them, they close with Esc and they return focus to the element it came from.
• The photographs have alternative text written by hand, one by one, looking at each image, and translated into all five languages.
• Links and buttons all have a name a screen reader can read out, including the ones that show only an icon on the page.
• Touch targets are kept apart: even the short links in the footer stay at least twenty-four points away from one another, so a finger cannot hit two at once.
• The page can be zoomed without anything being cut off: no limit on zoom is set.
• System preferences for reduced motion are respected: with “reduce motion” on, nothing moves and nothing stays hidden.
• The photo sequences on the house pages advance on their own, but stop on their own whenever someone is attending to them: on hover, when keyboard focus enters the sequence, when the browser tab moves to the background, and when the sequence leaves the screen. The arrows, the dots, the keyboard arrows and dragging all stay available.
• With reduced motion on, the automatic advance does not start at all: the photographs change only when you change them.
• Photographs hidden behind the one in front are not read by screen readers and cannot be reached with the Tab key.
• Nothing on the site flashes.
• The comparison table keeps its structure even when it turns into cards on a narrow screen.
• No important text is placed inside an image.

Known limits

• The interior photographs come from the property’s Booking listings and have a limited resolution: at most 1024 pixels wide, some less. The site never asks the browser for a version larger than the original, so on very large screens the detail stays what it was. There is one exception: where a 1024-pixel photograph fills a wider column, the browser scales it up, because the alternative would be leaving a gap.
• Some images carry a date stamped by the camera at the moment of the shot: it is part of the original and has not been removed.
• Guest reviews are not translated and stay in the language they were written in. It is a choice — they are other people’s words — but it means a sentence in Italian or English can appear on a German page.
• The site has not yet been tried with screen readers on real devices: the checks carried out so far are automated and manual keyboard ones.
• There is no conformance evaluation by an outside party: what is written here is what we checked ourselves.
